Xenophon’s Anabasis is a chronicle and the first autobiographical account. It tells of the march of the Ten Thousand, mercenaries recruited by Cyrus to dethrone his brother, the king of Persia. The book is an essential source of information about Persia, the people of the Anatolian plateau, and Greece in the fifth and fourth centuries BC.
