English summary: Illegal excavations, robbery and targeted theft, as well as destruction during war, repeatedly lead to losses and devastation in cultural institutions and historical sites. On the basis of 32 case studies with over 400 photos, museum and antiquities service managers as well as cultural heritage protection activists from Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Egypt and Libya report for the first time on the concrete situation of the massively threatened cultural heritage of their homelands. Before and after comparisons, supplemented by current research results, illustrate the dimension of these losses for the societies there and ultimately – as world heritage – for all of us. The publication appears in German with English and Arabic summaries.
