The Categoriae Decem, written during the fourth century AD, inaugurate the tradition of Latin commentary. Written by a contemporary of Themistius, their author intends to provide a translation of the latter’s paraphrase, lost to this day in any other language, on the first treatise of Aristotle’s Organon. In addition to its importance for the reconstitution of a part of Themistius’ thought, this work also presents the interest of proposing, before Martianus Capella and Boethius, an almost complete Latin version of the Stagirite’s Categories, which enriches the lexical and semantic fund of Greek-Latin equivalences in Aristotelian dialectics, while feeding and diversifying the exegesis concerning it.
