Vatican II in Latin America and the Caribbean

In this volume, a group of distinguished historians and theologians from Latin America and the Caribbean offers a comprehensive reflection on the Second Vatican Council, exploring its impact on the political, cultural, socio-economic, ecclesial, and theological life of the region. Part of the twelve-volume intercontinental series dedicated to Vatican II, the book is organised into three sections. The first examines the social and ecclesial dynamics of the decades leading up to the Council. The second traces the diverse ways in which Vatican II was received across the major regions of Latin America and the Caribbean. The third analyses each of the Council’s sixteen documents in relation to the life of the Church and the development of theology on the continent. The volume underscores the Council’s lasting influence in the region and points toward paths for future theological and ecclesial renewal.
