English summary: The double red rose is without a doubt the species most commonly found in ancient Pompeii — both in terms of visual representation and in the works of classical authors. Is it possible that this Ancient Rose of Pompeii travelled the same path to Italy as the peach? Though peaches were a plant of Chinese origin, the Romans discovered them in Persia and cultivated them widely in the Roman Empire. This book explores this possible origin of the double red rose in Pompeii.
