English summary: Intonation studies deals with the melodic arrangement of vocal statements. Today, thanks to considerable progress made in recent decades, this area of research plays a central role within the fields of phonetics and phonology. Nevertheless, the phenomenon of intonation has remained difficult for students to grasp. This volume aims to provide a first introduction to modern intonation studies. It is aimed at students of Germanic and General Linguistics at BA and MA level, teachers and researchers in the field of German Studies and of German as a foreign language as well as readers who work in related disciplines.

German description: Die Intonationsforschung beschäftigt sich mit der melodischen Gestaltung sprachlicher Äusserungen. Nach enormen Fortschritten in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten nimmt dieser Forschungsbereich heute einen zentralen Platz innerhalb der Phonetik und Phonologie ein. Gleichwohl ist die Intonation bis heute ein für Studierende schwer fassbarer Phänomenbereich geblieben. Der vorliegende Band möchte einen ersten Zugang zur modernen Intonationsforschung eröffnen. Themen sind die phonetischen Grundlagen der Intonation, traditionelle und neuere phonologische Beschreibungssysteme, die Form und Funktion der Intonation des Standarddeutschen sowie die Beziehungen zwischen der Intonationsforschung und linguistischen Nachbargebieten. Der Band richtet sich an Studierende der Germanistischen und Allgemeinen Sprachwissenschaft im BA- und MA-Studium, an Lehrende und Forschende im Bereich der Germanistik und von Deutsch als Fremdsprache sowie an Interessierte aus angrenzenden Fachgebieten.
